Centerless grinding technology
Centerless grinding is a precision machining process used to remove material from the outer diameter of a workpiece without the need for centers to support the workpiece. Unlike traditional cylindrical grinding, where the workpiece is held between centers or in a chuck, centerless grinding relies on a unique configuration involving two rotary wheels – the grinding wheel and the regulating (or control) wheel – and a stationary work rest blade.The workpiece is placed between these two wheels and rests on the blade. The grinding wheel, typically made of abrasive materials such as aluminum oxide or silicon carbide, rotates at high speed and performs the grinding action, while the regulating wheel turns more slowly and controls the rotation and axial movement of the workpiece.
